IT4Automation has run the landlord network at a major London investment management headquarters for 16 years, from the new-build take-on in 2010 to a technology refresh in 2026.
One resilient, segmented network carries the landlord and up to 12 Building Services across 12 floors, with controlled remote maintainer access, 24/7 monitoring, technical support and network maintenance.
At a glance
- 12 floors: landlord plus tenants, with up to 12 segmented Building Services on one network.
- 50 switches: a resilient, segmented network with 400+ access ports and an HA firewall cluster.
- 24/7 monitoring: network availability, condition and security event monitoring.
- 16 years’ service: a long-term, trusted partner to the building.
The situation
In 2010, as part of a new-build project, IT4A was engaged to design and implement an integrated, high-availability landlord network to service and support 12 autonomous Building Management Systems.
The building needed a single, dependable network for the landlord and its tenants, with each Building Service kept separate and secure. IT4A supports the network infrastructure; the specialist BMS contractors keep responsibility for their own applications and field equipment.
What we did
IT4A took ownership of the OT network from design through to day-to-day support:
- Full OT network design and documentation.
- Controlled contractor access, with named accounts, MFA and logging.
- Monitoring deployed for network availability, condition and security events.
- Backup coverage reviewed and a restore test witnessed.
In 2026 the network was taken through a technology refresh, so the building continues to run on supported, maintained infrastructure.
The result
The property team now has a documented baseline, a single technical point of ownership for OT network incidents, and an evidence-based risk register that supports lifecycle and service-charge planning.
Visibility: the network is documented and monitored. Control: contractor access runs through named accounts with MFA and logging. Assurance: backup coverage has been reviewed and a restore has been tested and witnessed.
Where it landed
The network is now supported under a recurring managed service, with quarterly risk and lifecycle reporting to the property team. It is the model behind our landlord networking service and part of our wider approach to operational technology assurance for managed buildings.
Start with one building
If you manage office buildings and want the same clarity over your landlord network, a one-building OT infrastructure risk review is a low-risk place to start. To talk it through, get in touch.
